High-Efficiency Flat Stock Pallet Uncoiling Systems

Norwalk Innovation brand name Un-Coilers by Press Room Equipment are designed for efficiency and ease of operation. This allows the operators to change coils with little disruption to the production flow. Once the Pallet Un-Coiler is loaded the operator simply guides the first coil around the drum and into the production machine’s feed mechanism. This operation takes about five minutes.

The Un-Coiler’s feeding action is initiated by the pull of the strip material from the production equipment, which activates our patented, “Quick Torque” drive system. This pulling effect of the material, which is fed around the Un-Coiler’s self-aligning guide drum, draws the drum outwards and rotates the table. The farther the guide drum is pulled outwards, the faster the turntable rotates, assuring automatic speed synchronization with the machine tool. The drive wheel runs directly to the table rim surface, providing very responsive starting and stopping, avoiding excess coasting. The tension remains constant, whether uncoiling a full or almost empty load.

The design and functionality of the Pallet Un-Coiler allows operators to change coils more quickly. Once an Un-Coiler is loaded, the operator simply guides the first coil around the drum and into the production machine’s feeding mechanism – an operation that takes about five minutes. When the top coil runs out, the operation is repeated on the next coil and so on. Those five-minute intervals multiplied by the number of coils on a pallet add up to a fraction of the time it takes to change coils on single coil systems. There’s no replenishment and hoisting time between coil changes. Further, thanks to the Un-Coiler’s superb tension control, it helps to reduce misfeeds and cool breakage, another dramatic timesaving’s feature.
